ECS: The Event Industry’s Enhanced and Critical Care Specialists
Where did it all begin?
Founded in 2015 by two Emergency Medicine Doctors passionate about delivering high quality care, irrespective of injury, illness or location, ECS set out to fill a gap in the event industry; the provision of senior clinicians, backed by robust governance, to deliver extended skills to support critically unwell patients and provide advanced hospital avoidance.
And so, Enhanced Care Services was born!
Robust Governance and Excellent Equipment
Clinicians are only as good as the equipment provided and the governance that underpins them. Our provision is underpinned by those who understand pre-hospital and emergency medicine, and how to deliver enhanced and critical care safely, irrespective of location.
Led by our Medical and Clinical Directorate and Patient Safety Team;
Dr David Connor, our Medical Director (Pre-Hospital & Emergency Medicine Consultant)
Dan Cody, our Clinical Director & Consultant Paramedic (Critical Care Paramedic)
Dr Ben Elkins, our Deputy Medical Director (Emergency Medicine Consultant)
Claire Peaty, our Quality Lead & Lead Nurse (Emergency Department Senior Sister)
Our equipment is second-to-none and all standardised, checklisted and bespoke.
From top specification defibrillators with the ability to monitor invasive blood pressures and core temperatures, to point-of-care blood gas machines, ultrasound, LUCAS devices, video laryngoscopes, specialist PAX bags and an extensive formulary, only permitted due to our Home Office Controlled Drugs Licence.
Critical Care Teams
Made up of a Critical Care Doctor and Critical Care Practitioner (similar to that of most HEMS units), our Critical Care Teams are capable of delivering advanced surgical interventions, pre-hospital emergency anaesthesia, emergency ultrasound and much more, supporting critically unwell patients across any event.
All of our clinicians work in pre-hospital critical care teams as part of their day jobs and can be deployed in a vehicle, or be embedded within our large scale medical centre provision.
We also often deploy solo Critical Care Practitioners responding across an event site, capable of delivering many of the same skills as a full team.
Enhanced Care Provision
Our large scale medical centres are the home to our Clinical Leads (Emergency Medicine Consultants), Enhanced Care Doctors, all senior Emergency Medicine specialists (ST4+), Emergency Nurses, Practitioners and First Responders, together delivering extensive emergency medicine capabilities from procedural sedation to ultrasound, joint reduction to point of care blood testing, advanced wound closure to specialist heat illness management and so much more!
Our Enhanced Care teams are capable of managing large numbers of patients across medical centres that range from 10 to 60+ beds, and ensuring all patients are triaged, treated and discharged to the most appropriate pathway, often with >98% of patients never needing to attend an NHS hospital or care facility!
