Immediate Life Support Course

(1 day face to face course)

The ILS course (www.resus.org.uk) is designed for those providing a first response to the acutely deteriorating patient. Held at the ECS headquarters in Hampshire, near Southampton, the ILS course is aimed at both qualified and student doctors, nurses, ambulance clinicians, midwives, dentists, allied health professionals and other emergency service and prison staff.

Course Content

The ILS course teaches the knowledge and skills to:

  • Identify the causes and promote the prevention of cardiac arrest;

  • Recognise and provide initial treatment to the deteriorating patient using the ABCDE approach;

  • Undertake the skills of quality CPR and defibrillation (manual and/or AED) and simple airway manoeuvres;

  • Utilise non-technical skills to facilitate initial leadership and effective team membership

Assessment and Certification

Assessment is continuous and is guided by the assessment forms provided for each core skill. Copies of the assessment forms will be forwarded to the candidate with their manual. The ILS course is recognised for up to 5 continuing professional development (CPD) points.

 
 

Our courses are delivered exclusively by Emergency Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics who all have current hands-on care with patients in the NHS.
